Day 1 - Mission trip to Colorado

Hello Lifegroup Family,

I just wanted to give you an update on how things are going here in Colorado.  I am sure you all heard about the challenges we faced getting here.  We were basically on the Texas-New Mexico border (thats right...the middle of nowhere) and a tire on our trailer pretty much fell apart.  We limped into Clayton, NM, and hung out in a DQ for about 3 hours while we waited to get the tire repaired.  Based on that little incident, our trip took about 20 hours to complete.  LONG day!

Those memories all disappeared on Monday.  The park where we are holding the event is beautiful, with great views of snow capped peaks and plenty of green grass to run and play on.  The many hours of planning and sweating the small details paid off.  The first day went about as smoothly as we could have dared hope.  The kids all had a great time.  We were absolutley exhausted by the end.  We are not used to the altitude and the dry air.  A lot of dehydration, something that we are having to be more aware of.  All that said, most kids went home really excited about the week ahead and pledging to tell their friends.

We have really been blessed to be working with the teen team from the Pier.  They have brought such an energy and a can-do spirit, and they are really helping make it fun for the kids.

The reason we are so interested in KidsGames is that the raw numbers and data support it as an outstanding community outreach tool.  Where a traditional VBS consists of 92%
churched kids on average, KidsGames draws about 42% unchurched kids.  This one bears that out....fully 50% of the kids enrolled and attending are currently not involved in a church anywhere.  What an awesome opportunity!!

Please pray for us as the week goes on, that we will have stamina (this is really physically demanding), that we can truly impact the families that we are working with here, and that God's love will shine through.

Attached are a few pictures from day 1.  Check them out, you will get a kick out of them.  I'll update you as the week goes along.

In Christ,

Steve
