Hi fellow missionaries/uncomfortable people!
I saw a post on Facebook that said either you are a mission field or a missionary. In missions, seek to have a global view but mostly act locally. Seek to step out of your comfort zone (be uncomfortable), be led 100% by the Holy Spirit, and be the hands and feet of our Lord Jesus Christ. Seek to be a shining light for the Gospel all day and every day in your own little world.
I have defined 3 local mission events for our class starting in April - we may do 1 or 2 in April and/or 1 or 2 in May. The goal is to find a variety of missions that do most of what you are interested in. I know this is a busy time of year as school winds down, but try to go on 1 or 2 of these (or all 3!) with your family. Hey, I need leaders for possibly 2 of these events; we are graduating 2 HS Seniors this year and we are busy busy; let me know if you are willing to lead.
We will continue to have local mission events all year and when the time is right we will define our class local missions focus. Our focus is what we will primarily do most of the time so we can build relationships, but we will continue to do other various missions so we can see and experience more of what God is up to.
Our upcoming mission events:
Park Manor ministry, South Dallas - This is a 10 year old LPC/Cornerstone Baptist Church ministry which is a once per month Sat. lunch and fellowship time with elderly folks in South Dallas. It is always the 4th Sat of every month, 10:30am-12:00pm. The need is for people to serve the food and to carry the food to shut-ins. They also need people to visit with the elderly folks. Kids of all ages are very welcomed! The LG that runs this ministry has only about 10 people that volunteer so they always need help.
Genesis Center, Kaufman, TX - This is a Shelter and Recovery ministry that houses (about 50?) women and their children. It is very evangelistic! 100+ souls are saved per year. They minister primarily to counties east of Dallas including Rockwall County. We are looking at having a Sat outside BBQ, playtime for kids, fellowshipping with women, and manual work for others such as our dads and teens. I will lead this event.
Lake Rockwall Estates, Rockwall, TX - This is a LPC local Rockwall ministry, and it is a Hispanic ministry that is about transforming whole families and a whole community for Christ. The 3 families our class adopted for Christmas are from this neighborhood. We are looking at sponsoring a movie night or some other event like that. We would provide snacks and drinks, and fellowship with the people. The goal for us is to experience and get to know the LRE ministry and people.
